How to Get a License for a Video Game Store

Step 1

First, determine if you need a license. With rare exceptions the answer is "yes, you will." Your next step is to determine the government you will need to get the licenses from. In most cases this will be your local city or county government.

Step 2

Be sure the location of your business is zoned properly for a business. If you are looking for a location, a real-estate agent who works with business properties can be very helpful. Otherwise inquire with your local government offices.

Step 3

Contact the appropriate authorities and inquire about the licenses you will need to operate a business. Contacts for local governments can be found in the phone book or, sometimes, online. The local government can answer any questions about the necessary permits and fees required for your business. The county clerk's office is often the best place to start.

Tips

  • While opening a business may be new for you, it's something that local governments are used to dealing with. Don't be afraid to ask questions along the way.
