Although you can make a customer inactive through the Edit Customer screen, it takes a long time to shorten the QuickBooks Customers and Jobs list if you want to hide a large group of inactive customers one by one. Instead, use the option to simultaneously select multiple customers on the list to make a group of your customers inactive at the same time. Hiding your inactive customers from the Customers and Jobs list makes the list shorter and more manageable without deleting each customer’s historical data.

Launch QuickBooks, and then open the "Customers" menu.

Select "Customer Center" from the drop-down menu to open the Customer Center window.

Select the "Customers and Jobs" tab, and then click the drop-down box.

Select "All Customers" to display your entire customer list.

Hover your cursor next to a customer you want to make inactive, and then click when the cursor turns to an "X."

Select the other customers that you want to make inactive and then close the Customer Center window.

Tip

Double-click on the name of a customer in the Customers and Jobs list to open the Edit Customer window.
