How to Create a Packing Slip

Packing slips are an essential tool in sending and receiving goods. They let the receivers know if they have received all of the goods, who they are from and any contact information they may need. Packing slips also help ensure that all the goods you intend to send have been packed and listed. They keep a detailed record of what has been sent, where it is going and when it was sent. Keeping a copy of the packing slip also allows the sender to have a record for himself if the shipment gets lost in transit.

Compile all the information for the shipment. You will need such things as the mailing address, billing address, name of the receiver, item descriptions and quantity of these items. You will also want to include sender address, company information and any comments you have for the receiver.

Find a packing slip template online. There are many styles of template that are free and easily accessible. Choose one that fits the style of packing slip you need; some are more business-oriented than others.

Download this template and fill in the information you compiled on your shipment. The template will prompt you to fill out each heading and category.

Print the packing slip.

  • Choose a template that fits your style. Change any details on the template to fit your own style. Add a graphic that represents you or your company.
