Some families go through hard times and need some extra help. Help out a needy family by donating money or putting together donation drives. Gather donations through a local organization and put together special packages for the family in need. Help the family get back on their feet by donating items that might seem simple but might be important to them. Don't just give a one-time donation, but spread giving out over a period of time.
Give a general donation through a charity within your area. Check out the website nonprofitlist.org for a list of reputable non-profit organizations.
Bring up the family's name within your local church or non-profit organization. Let the organization know about the family's story and ask for help with donations for the family.
Use monetary donations to buy basic staples like diapers, toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, baby formula, hairbrushes, shampoo and soap. Fill backpacks with school supplies for the kids before school begins.
Set up a canned food, clothing and toy drive within the local organization you have chosen. Ask those who are participating to bring unwrapped toys, non-perishable food items and clothing to the drive. If the drive is overly successful, adopt a second family and donate some of the goods to them.
Put together food baskets for specific holidays like Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving and even birthdays. Include in the baskets everything that a family might have for a special family dinner and decorations to go along with the holiday. Wrap presents for the individual's birthday or even for Christmas.
Deliver donations to the family's home by hand. Bring those who participated with the donations to the family's home. Or, invite the family to the nonprofit organization or the church where you have been putting together organizations.
Ask for discounts from local retailers when purchasing items for the needy family. Sometimes, you will be able to get these items at a cheaper rate.
