Because massage therapy can improve health, the need for massage therapists will grow as people discover its benefits. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, jobs for massage therapists should grow faster than average from now until 2016. After you have the required training and are ready to open your massage business, you will need clients.
How to Advertise
It may be beneficial for your massage business to begin working part-time in a spa, hotel or physical therapy center in order to build a client base. If you have happy customers, let them know you will be starting or have started your own business.
Referrals constitute a good percentage of your clientele, and networking is a great way to get referrals. You can join a professional business association in your area to help you build contacts. Make sure you have business cards that you can hand out at your networking sessions.
Print out flyers advertising your business and some sort of promotion such as half off for first-time customers. You may not make much money on the initial massage, but if you do a good job, you may get repeat clients.
Advertise in coupon books. Many businesses that advertise in these books offer some kind of discount or promotion, so you should do that too. Look through one of the books you intend to use for ideas and contact information.
Advertise on the radio. If you can, advertise when people are commuting home from work. They are probably tired and may be caught in rush-hour traffic. An ad for a massage will sound particularly enticing at that moment.
Advertising in the Yellow Pages is a mixed bag. People are used to looking there for services; however, the Yellow Pages can be expensive. Prices vary depending on your area, so you would need to call them to check out their prices. Also, you may get calls from people who see your ad and want to know whether you offer sex services. You need to prepare yourself for that if you advertise a massage business in the Yellow Pages.
Use social networking sites. You can advertise your business and give free health tips, for example, to your online network of friends.
Advertise in your local newspaper. Weeklies or monthlies with a targeted zip code are a great place to advertise because you are only paying to reach the people in your area. If the paper also runs feature stories, ask them if they can do one on your business. It may heldp that you are advertising with them.
