The HP Deskjet D4360 is an inkjet printer that is part of the D4300 series. As with other inkjet printers, the HP D4300 series will occasionally require simple maintenance and cleaning to perform at its best. Unclean printers can cause a variety of printing issues, including ink smudges, streaks, fading and overall diminished quality. If you are experiencing any of these problems and the ink levels are normal, then you will need to clean the printer and cartridges.

Wipe the cartridge copper contacts gently with the damp cotton swab, making sure not to touch the ink nozzles in between the contacts. Continue wiping the contacts until the ink residue or dust is gone. Wipe the contacts with a dry cotton swab to dry the cartridge.
Replace the cartridges when you are finished and close the cover. Plug the printer back into the electrical socket and run a print test to recalibrate the printer.
Cleaning the Exterior
Turn off the printer, remove any paper and unplug the cord from the wall.
Moisten a soft, lint-free cloth with water and squeeze out any excess water -- do not use any detergents as they can cause damage to the finish. Gently wipe the outside of the printer to remove any dust, debris, smudges or small pieces of paper.
Allow the printer to completely dry before plugging it into the socket. Resume normal use.
Only clean print cartridges when necessary to save ink and improve performance. Do not leave the print cartridges outside of the Deskjet for more than 30 minutes; doing this can cause the ink to dry out. Do not touch the print cartridge ink nozzles, this can cause ink failure, clogs and bad electrical connections.
