Tampa, Florida is the largest port in the State of Florida. To work in the port, you are required to obtain a Port Access Badge before you can enter. The Tampa Port Authority Security Operations Building deals with all access and security issues for the port. Acquiring a pass requires preparing a form, along with some documentation and bringing it to the Security Operations Building.

Things You Will Need
  • Internet access

  • Pen

  • Documentation

Collect legal documentation required to get a Port Access Badge. This includes; an original driver's license if operating a motor vehicle within the port, proof of legal status and employment eligibility in the United States, Social Security Card and a valid government issued photo I.D. (United States Passport or driver's license).

Get a money order, a company check, or use a credit card for the $70 original application fee, which is good for one year from the date of issue. Subsequent fees are $35 for a renewal and $20 for a replacement badge.

Fill out the Tampa Port Authority Port Access Badge Application, available for download from their website (see references) or pick one up at the Security Operations Building. Pay special attention to the "Qualification Requirements" listed at the top of the form before continuing. The form asks for name, address, phone number, date of birth, height, weight, age, sex, race, eye and hair color. Social Security number, driver's license number and/or alien registration, as well as date of employment are required.

Turn the form in to your company for an authorized signature and then take it to the Tampa Port Authority Security Operations Building for review and issuance of badge.
