Finding a business tax number online line is a task that anyone with access to a Web browser can accomplish. Every legitimate business must have an Employer Identification Number (EIN). Some individuals providing freelance services may not have an EIN and will substitute their personal Social Security number in place of an EIN. Looking up the EIN for a business will allow you to determine whether the firm is a legally recognized entity.
Find Business Tax ID Number Online
Collect the name, address and telephone number of the business for which you are seeking an EIN. You may be able to find an EIN without all of this information but the more details you have the easier it will be.
Create an account at a website that specializes in conducting EIN searches such as KnowX or FEIN Search (see Resources). These websites charge a nominal fee to provide the information requested.
Pay the fee for the EIN search by visiting the website’s payment portal.
Input the information requested on the form and wait for the results. In addition to the EIN, you will also be able to view business profile information, bankruptcy filings, lien notices and other pertinent details about the business in question.
EINs are used by corporations, partnerships, sole proprietors and nonprofit organizations, as well as trusts and estates.
An EIN should never be used by an individual in place of a Social Security number. Improper use of an EIN may result in criminal prosecution.
