How to Calculate Priority Mail

If you have an item you need to send using Priority Mail, you may be wondering about shipping costs. This depends on such factors as the item's size, weight and destination. It is helpful to know these before going to the post office. Fortunately, the USPS has a tool that enables you to calculate Priority Mail shipping from home.

Go to the USPS Postage Price Calculator (See below under "Reference").

Select the country you will be sending your Priority Mail to from the drop-down menu.

Choose the type of mail. The Web site offers as options postcard, letter, large envelope and package.

Input the weight of your item. If you do a lot of shipping, it may be useful to invest in a postal scale for this purpose.

Enter your zip code and that of the addressee, as well as the shipping date and time if mailing within the United States.

Press "Continue." Your Priority Mail shipping will appear on the next page.
