Plan a scavenger hunt during a time when deadlines are not looming in your company. Team building events are most successful when your staff doesn't feel stressed by the mountain of work they have waiting for them when they return to the office.

Be realistic when shaping your list of things to scavenge. Whether you have your teams collect actual items or merely take pictures of places or things, make sure that they will not be trespassing or breaking the law in order to fulfill the scavenger hunt mission.

Make a backup plan in case of foul weather. If your scavenger hunt has your team traipsing through rainy or windy weather, make sure you have plenty of umbrellas or warm jackets on hand.

Scavenge for Team Work

Step 1

Draw up your list of items for your teams to photograph, since a visual scavenger hunt is among the most popular team building events. These can be street signs, local businesses or even well-known residents of your town.

Step 2

Make your scavenger item list mean something by choosing sites or things connected to your line of business or company history. This is a great way to make the event mark a significant anniversary or introduce new employees to the company.

Step 3

Divide your employees into groups of four or more and have them appoint a photographer, a map holder, a list keeper and timekeeper among themselves.

Step 4

Split the scavenger hunt event into segments by dividing clues into two time-limited lists. Upon completion of the first three or four tasks, each team will be given the next four or five items they need to find.

Step 5

Rally your teams together at a designated time and place to tally up the items found by each group. Depending on your plan, you may award points per item or simply give a reward to the group who found the most on the list.
