KPI for Training

by Colleen O'Brien ; Updated September 26, 2017
KPIs can help companies track training activities.

A key performance indicator, or KPI, for training is a measure that helps a company track its performance throughout a specific period. It can help an organization monitor its goals to ensure that training activities align with company objectives.

When developing a KPI, it should be one that can be measured over a period of time. It should include a metric that measures what is being tracked numerically, such as the number of training classes, and a target to reach, such as a 10 percent increase.

Choose a KPI that best represents the activities and performance of the training department. Make it specific and actionable so that employees and management can direct their activities toward achieving it.

KPIs for training should be designed to be achievable. If targets are too easily reached, they won’t be meaningful. If they’re not attainable, they won’t be effective.
