Luckily, all state senators are addressed the same throughout the country, with the only variation being on whether the senator in question is a man or woman. Following the proper protocol when addressing your state senator will ensure that you demonstrate a respectful and professional demeanor.

Greet the senator in person using his title and last name, such as "Senator Brown." In Washington, D.C., it's more common to use the honorific "State Senator (Brown)," or simply "Mr." or "Ms."

Use the honorific "The Honorable" when addressing an envelope to a state senator, followed by his full name. For example, "The Honorable John Brown." Write the name of his state legislature on the second line and above the address.
