Collect on delivery (COD) is a shipping service option offered by many shipping companies including the United States Postal Service, FedEx and UPS. The shipper always initiates the COD transaction, so the seller always has to agree to send the purchase using a COD shipping method. Depending on the shipping company and the COD options selected by the shipper, you can pay for COD shipments with cash, check or certified check or money order.
Purchase the merchandise on the Internet and select COD as the payment option. If COD is not offered as a payment option on the website, contact the seller by telephone or by clicking the "Contact Us" link on the website. Ask the seller if he can ship the merchandise to you COD.
Get tracking information for the COD shipment. The tracking information will tell you the exact amount you need to pay at delivery and the types of payment accepted by the shipping company.
Prepare the funds prior to the arrival of the shipment. If you are paying in cash, have exact change. Delivery drivers generally will not have change. If you are paying by certified check or money order, get the certified check or money order in advance.
