Facebook ads, formally known as Facebook flyers, are online advertisements that appear on the social networking website. Any individual, company or group can design and purchase an ad to appear on the site anywhere from a few days or indefinitely. Facebook ads can also be designed to target a certain age group or people in a certain location.
Designing Your Ad
Log in to your existing Facebook account by entering your username and password then clicking “Log In.” If you don’t have a Facebook account, click the “Sign Up” button to create a free profile.
Scroll down to the bottom of your news feed page. Click the word “Advertising,” then on the “Create an Ad” icon on the following page.
Fill out the form on the “Design Your Ad” page. Enter the full URL of the website you want your ad to take people to when they click on it. Give your ad a 25-character title that will catch people’s attention and sum up what you’re trying to get across. For example, if your business is having a large clearance sale, your title could be something like “Huge Sale -- Up to 80% Off.”
Write up your 135-character ad in the “Body” box. Include all of the most pertinent information in the body. For example, if you are using your ad to find job applicants, write something like “Now hiring part-time servers for nights and weekends. Make up to $300 per shift. To apply, click on this ad or call 555-555-5555.”
Choose an image to accompany your ad. After entering the URL for your website, any images that are currently on your website will appear as options for you to choose from under the “Image” heading. To select an image that is not on your website, click on “Upload my own,” then click the “Browse” button and locate a photo file on your computer and select “Open.” Click “Continue” when you have filled out every box on the form.
Demographics and Payment of Ad
Select for whom and where you want your ad to appear on the “Targeting” page. Under the “Country” heading, choose if you want your ad to appear to everyone within a certain country or if you want the ad to appear to every user within a certain city or zip code. Select the age group of users that you are targeting under “Demographics.”
Indicate how much you’d like to spend on your ad on the “Campaigns, Pricing and Scheduling” page. Under “Campaign & Budget,” type how much you’d like to spend per day on your ad.
Indicate how long you want your ad to run for. Using the date, time and calendar functions underneath the “Schedule” heading, indicate when you want your ad to start appearing on Facebook and when you want your ad to stop. Click on “Review Ad” when you’ve finished.
Review all of the details of your ad on the review page. If you want to make changes to your ad, click on the “Edit Ad” icon. If you want to place an order for your ad, click on the “Place Order” icon.
