Offered by the Royal Bank of Canada, the Avion Visa credit card enables you to accumulate reward points toward travel. For every dollar spent using the card, you earn one point. Once you collect 15,000 points, you can begin to redeem your points for travel without restrictions. As long as there's an available seat, you can fly on any airline at any time.
Travel Redemption Schedule
The more Avion points accumulated, the farther you can travel. A round-trip flight to an adjacent province or U.S. state -- short-haul trip -- requires 15,000 points for a maximum or base ticket price of $350 Canadian (CAD). A longer flight to anywhere in Canada or the U.S. -- except Hawaii or Alaska -- requires 35,000 points for a maximum ticket price of $750 CAD. Redeem 65,000 points for a maximum ticket price of $1,300 CAD to take a long-haul trip to Europe. This schedule applies to economy class flights. If the ticket costs more than the base ticket price, pay the additional amount via your Avion card or convert more points at a rate of 100 points = $1.00 CAD.
How to Redeem Points
There are three ways to redeem your points -- online, by phone or through the Carlson Wagonlit Travel agency. To redeem your points online, go to the RBC Rewards website and sign in with the credit card or online banking account. Once signed in, you can plan and book your travel. By phone, contact RBC Rewards Travel at 1-877-636-2870. Agents are available to take your call from Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 12 a.m. EST, and from Saturday to Sunday, 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. EST. If you're seeking a vacation package, call Carlson Wagonlit Travel at 1-800-227-5766 or visit their Vacation Club website (www.cwtvacationclub.ca/rbc) and use your reward points toward one of their travel offers.
Regard Booking Conditions
When using Avion points toward air travel, you have to book at least 14 days in advance. If you need flexibility and have to book a flight inside of the two-week time frame, you can redeem your points at a rate of 100 to $1.00 CAD. All tickets are non-refundable. Also, you can use your points to pay for taxes and surcharges at a rate of 100 to $1.00 CAD.
Converting Reward Points
You have the option to convert RBC Reward points to other forms of travel rewards, such as American Airlines AAdvantage miles, Asia miles, WestJet dollars, or British Airways Avios miles. You can also take advantage of special offers by these different carriers to receive bonus rewards on top of your RBC Reward points. You can also convert points for shopping or gas rewards.
