Amazon offers an online marketplace to consumers around the world. The marketplace is not limited to Amazon's retail stock; account holders can also post items for sale. This is an ideal option for individuals that want to sell old clothes or clothing that their children have outgrown. Home-based fashion designers can also benefit from utilizing this sales platform, but a Pro Merchant account would be more appropriate for listing clothing that you have created or altered. Pro Merchant accounts require a monthly membership fee but they allow you to add items that do not already exist in Amazon's inventory.

On Individual Accounts

Open your preferred Web browser and navigate to the Amazon website. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and double-click on the words "Sell on Amazon" listed directly underneath the "Make Money With Us" heading.

Select the "Start Selling" tab under "Sell Your Stuff." Individual account holders are charged $0.99 plus a variable closing fee for each item sold.

Select "Everything Else" from the "Select Product Category" drop-down menu. Enter search terms that describe the garment you want to sell in the "Search by title or keyword(s)" search box. Click on the "Start Selling" tab on the right side of the text box. Scroll down the list of items until you find an item that is an exact match for your garment. Click on the "Sell Yours Here" tab on the right side of the item.

Select the condition of the garment from the drop-down menu under the "Select the condition of your product" heading. Enter further details describing the condition of the garment in the text box under the "Add your comments about the condition" heading using 2000 characters or less.

Double-click the "Continue" tab at the bottom of the page. Type the price that you want to charge for your garment in United States dollars in the text box below the "Enter the price for your product" heading. Type the number of the garments of the same condition that you are selling in the text box below the "Quantity information" heading. Choose your preferred shipping methods under the "Your shipping methods" heading and click on the "Expedited shipping" check box if desired. Click on the "Continue" tab at the bottom of the screen.

Log in to your Amazon account, or follow the prompts to create a new account by entering your email address, a password and your credit card information. Choose a seller name if you do not have one already and enter it into the blank text box.

Click on the "Submit your Listing" button at the bottom of the page and wait for an email notification from Amazon that tells you when the garment has been sold. Access your seller account to obtain the shipping details for your buyer. Print out the packing slip and address label and mail your garment within the next 48 hours.

On Pro Merchant Accounts

Open your preferred Web browser and navigate to the Amazon website. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and double-click on the words "Sell on Amazon" listed directly underneath the "Make Money With Us" heading. Alternately, log in to your existing Pro Merchant account.

Select the "Start Selling" tab under "Sell Professionally." As of 2011, Pro Merchant account fees are $39.99 for a yearly membership plus a referral fee and a variable closing fee for each item sold. Follow the prompts to create an account if you do not have one yet. Disregard this step if you have an existing account.

Open the "Manage Your Inventory" section on your account homepage. Double-click on the "Create a Page" link.

Select "Apparel" from the first "Category" drop-down menu. Pick a suitable subcategory from the following drop-down menu to classify your garment.

Provide the name of the garment and the name of the designer in the blank text boxes. Fill in any UPC codes or product numbers on the garment in the appropriate text boxes and give the name of the brand. Click on "Next."

Describe your garment in the blank text field.

Click on the "Submit your Listing" button at the bottom of the page.

Wait for an email notification from Amazon that tells you when the garment has been sold. Access your seller account to obtain the shipping details for your buyer. Print out the packing slip and address label and mail your item within the next 48 hours.
