While SMART Boards don't need a projector to function, you can use them for more purposes if you use a projector to extend your desktop to a screen. All SMART Boards except for the SMART Board for Plasma Displays will work with most projectors, but some may provide an advantage over others. Projectors built to give the best possible presentations will deliver a clear, sharp image and will include other options for connection and power management.

SMART Projectors

SMART sells two projectors: the UF70 and the UX80. They're both ultra-short throw projectors that can be used to display HD content. The UF70 has one HDMI port, provides 3,000 lumens of brightness and has an extended control panel to help you manage the projector while giving a presentation. The UX80 has two HDMI ports, provides 3,300 lumens of brightness and is filter-free. It can display 3D content and has a built-in speaker. The high brightness of both projectors makes them ideal for office environments with a lot of light, and the UX80 is good for multimedia presentations because of its integrated speaker.

Bright Projectors

When you're doing a presentation in a bright room or on a very large screen, you want a bright projector so that your images are clear and easy for each participant to see. One projector that delivers this is the Christie Roadster HD18K. It delivers 18,000 lumens with a lamp life of 750 hours. BenQ also offers a high brightness projector in its SH940 model, providing 4,000 lumens of brightness and a contrast ratio of 50000:1. The Barco RLM-W6 features 6,000 lumens and claims to consume 10 percent less power than similar projectors and to be 30 percent quieter than competitive models.

Multimedia Projectors

If you want to show presentations with sound, a projector with built-in speakers can make setting up easier. The BenQ W1070 has built-in speakers that are plug and play ready, which means all you need to do is connect the computer with the SMART board and plug in the projector to start using it. The ViewSonic PJD5134 has built-in speakers and includes a remote control. Another option is the Epson PowerLite 97, which has built-in speakers and can display content from multiple sources with the click of a button.

Portable Projectors

When you do presentations outside of your office, it's important to have a projector that you can pick up and take with you. The ViewSonic PJD5133 is a very light model with 2,700 lumens, an HDMI port and an on-board speaker. Another portable projector option is the Epson VS230, which has 2800 lumens and intuitive controls to make it easy to set up. The Optima HD 33, another light model, offers 1,800 lumens and PureMotion image processing to deliver smooth moving images on-screen.
