With the invention of the Internet, the common fax machine has become a thing of the past. But if you still need to use one, and you haven't used one before, this guide is the easiest way to do so.
Items you will need
Active phone line
Plug in fax machine and wait for it to load. Make sure it has paper and ink for any confirmations you may need. Depending on your needs, follow the manual or menu options for your fax setup (phone number, autodial options, etc.)
Look on the side for the phone jack. Some have a L for line or a pic of a phone. Plug the phone cord into that jack, the other end should be plugged into the wall. If your fax has a receiver, pick it up to hear the dial tone. If there is no receiver, there should be a phone button on the front of the fax. If you don't hear a dial tone, you can change the jack that the cord is plugged into.
Next, try to send a fax to someone as a test run. Load the paper to be faxed, put in the phone number and see what happens. Either call the person to see if the fax was received, or wait to see if you get a confirmation print out. You may have to configure the options to get a confirmation.
If you are going to use the fax often, you can plug the phone into the additional jack and set a distinctive ring for the phone and the fax.
