District managers work in major companies and retail stores. Consequently, most district managers oversee the work of sales reps and store managers. District managers who oversee sales forces assign their reps to specific territories. Sales district managers also institute specific sales promotions to enhance the selling process. District managers overseeing retail units communicate in-store merchandising and marketing programs to managers. Including incentive payments like bonuses and commissions, sales district mangers can earn total incomes of $68,483 to $161,135. Retail district managers earn annual salaries of $52,696 to $80,327. With the inclusion of incentive payments, retail district managers can earn up to $63,047 to $129,919. Additionally, Glassdoor.com lists 1,000 salaries for various district managers, most of whom earn between $45,000 and $100,000 per year. And Salarylist.com indicates that the average salary for a district manager is $69,619.

Years of Experience

District sales managers' incomes usually increase significantly with experience. For example, sales district managers with zero to four years of experience earn annual salaries of $39,436 to $64,999, according to PayScale.com. Retail district managers with zero to four years of experience earn annual salaries of $44,749 to $68,222. After five to nine years of experience, sales district managers earn salaries of $49,887 to $77,384 per year, and retail district managers make $50,646 to $74,318 per year. With 10 to 20 years of experience, sales and retail district managers can expect to earn annual salaries of $60,217 to $104,986 and $58,104 to $92,628, respectively.
