Mont Blanc Fountain Pen Instructions

by Stephanie Cai; Updated September 26, 2017

Montblanc fountains pens are sturdy, durable pens that are elegantly crafted. These pens can last a lifetime if you take proper care of them. Refilling the ink is an important step towards maintenance. You will notice when it is time to refill your ink when your pen begins to skip while writing or the writing begins to look faded. A Montblanc fountain pen is also environmentally friendly, since you will not be throwing out plastic pen or ink cartridges once the ink runs out.

Items you will need

  • Bottled ink
  • Scrap paper
  • Paper towel
Step 1

Uncap the fountain pen to prepare for the refill. Unscrew the base of the pen barrel. Turn the barrel from the nib section. There will be a piston converter attached to the nib section of the pen.

Step 2

Uncap your bottled ink on a leveled, flat surface to ensure that there are no spills or accidents. Hold a portion of the piston converter nearest toward the nib with one hand and dip the nib into the ink. Use the other hand to twist the top of the piston converter counterclockwise until it stops. You must do this to flush and clean out the reservoir of the converter.

Step 3

Twist the top of the converter now clockwise as far as it can go. Turn the converter clockwise to draw the ink from the bottle into the reservoir to fill it. Screw the barrel of the pen back onto the nib section.

Step 4

Take a paper towel and use it to gently wipe off any excess ink from the nib. Now take your scrap paper and write on it to ensure that the ink flows properly.
