How to Become a Quickbooks Expert

by Jamie Lisse; Updated September 26, 2017

If you are an accounting professional, you can become fluent in the Quickbooks family of programs. This includes things such as QuickBooks Point of Sale and QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions Certification. To become a Quickbooks expert, you must get certified. Certification is good for one year, after which you must take a re-certification exam. Certification consists of learning the ins and outs of the software and passing an exam.

Step 1

Enroll in the QuickBooks ProAdvisor Program through Intuit. Call 888-890-2919 to sign up over the phone. As of December 2010, the price was $449 per year or $624 per year to add on the Payroll option.

Step 2

Log into your new account once you have signed up with the QuickBooks ProAdvisor Program. As a member, you get free access to some basic Quickbooks software and discounts for other Quickbooks software. If you need to purchase additional software, you can do so from your account once logged in.

Step 3

Click on the link for “Certification Course Locker” in your QuickBooks ProAdvisor Program account. You must be logged in to your account to access the link. As you take the courses, you can earn up to 16 certification credits. Intuit estimates that it takes 16 hours to complete the courses and that the exam takes at least four hours. The exam link is on the same page as the courses and you can skip any courses and go right to the exam, if you prefer. There is no additional cost for the courses or exam.
