How to Add My Phone Number to the Do Not Call List

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) together have established a do-not-call list that is designed to prevent unwanted telemarketing calls. Registration is free, and both mobile phones and land lines may be added to the list. Not all calls will be prevented by registration on the do-not-call list. Exemptions include noncommercial calls and calls from certain not-for-profit organizations. Also allowed are calls from businesses to whom you have given written permission to call you or with whom you have a prior business relationship.

Enter your phone number at the registration page of the National Do Not Call Registry (see Reference 2). You can add up to three numbers at a time.

Enter your email address in the "Email Address" field, and enter the address again in the "Confirm Email Address" field. Click "Submit."

Review the information. When you are certain it is correct, click "Register."

Open the email account of the address you have given to the registry. Open the message from the address "register@donotcall.gov."

Click on the link in the message to confirm your registration.

Tips

  • If you prefer, you can add a phone number to the registry by calling 1-888-382-1222 from the phone number you wish to register. TTY users can call 1-866-290-4236.
