If you need to send signed documents and other personal information that must be received immediately, sending it via fax is one way to get your information safely to its destination. Faxing overseas to Italy is not difficult, because it follows the same guidelines as placing an international phone call.
Find a fax machine that's connected to a phone line that allows international calls. This could be a machine that you own, a machine in your work place or a public machine at an office-supply store or shipping service. You also can send faxes through online services (see Resources).
Find out if you need to dial "9" to reach an outside line. Some businesses and institutions require that "9" be dialed to make an outside phone call or fax. If so, dial "9" first.
Dial the country code of the country from which you are sending the fax. If you are in the United States or Canada, you must dial "011" (see Resources).
Dial the country code for Italy, which is "39."
Dial the city code and your recipient's fax number. For example, if you are faxing Rome, you would dial "6" as the city code, followed by your recipient's fax number.
Press "Send" and listen for ringing and subsequent connection. Double-check the number if you have trouble getting through.
Businesses usually charge a fee per page that is faxed.
