How to FAX by eMail

by Contributor - Updated September 26, 2017
Traditional fax machines are no longer required to send or receive a fax.

Email fax services are one of the latest innovations in the way we do business. You no longer need a landline phone and a fax machine to receive and send faxes. Now you can send and receive faxes by email, whether on your desktop, laptop, tablet or smartphone, by signing up for an email fax service.

There are a number of email fax services to choose from. Compare rates, services and reviews, and choose the one you think is best for you. The typical monthly fee is lower than a dedicated landline phone.

Most services will provide you with a dedicated phone number to receive your faxes, but you will be able to have faxes sent to multiple email addresses. You can have from 1 to 25 users in your plan, depending upon the service you select.

To send a fax, you generally type in the fax number, including the country code and area code, followed by the email address of the service provider, in the "To" section of your email. For example, 1800xxxxxxx@faxservice.com. Then you type the content of the fax in the body of the email. You can also attach documents to the email to be included in the fax.

You will receive faxes as email attachments, usually in a PDF or tiff file. Simply download and open the file.
