Becoming a skin care consultant is an ideal decision during difficult economic times, because you can become your own boss. Luckily, there are quite a few companies that can help you get started, such as Avon and Mary Kay. Some skin care consultants choose to attend cosmetology school, but the vast majority learn through watching DVDs and consulting with other skin care professionals.
Items you will need
- Starter kit with skin care products
- Skin care teaching DVDs

Choose a company that is right for you. Mary Kay has been around since 1963 and is a reputable company with proven products.
Go to marykay.com and access the link in the menu on the left that reads "Sell Mary Kay."
Watch the videos that explain the company's approach and requirements, what you'll need to know to be a skin care consultant, and how you can get started.
Click the link at the bottom of any video page that reads "Start your Mary Kay business today! Contact me now." You will see contact information, including a phone number and an email address.
Contact the Mary Kay skin care consultant to schedule a meeting, either in person, or over the Internet, to get you signed up. For a little more than $100 you will receive your starter kit filled with everything you need to become an independent beauty/skin care consultant. You'll also get a DVD called "Mary Kay Time Wise Skin Care Class."
Everything you need to know is included in the skin care consultant starter kit, including merchandise and advice about how to help your clients choose the right skin care products for their needs.
Do not apply skin care products to your clients' faces unless you are a registered cosmetologist. Your job is to guide and direct them.
