What Is Swiss ETA Movement?

by Gregory M. Dew; Updated September 26, 2017

ETA is a Swiss watch company owned by the Swatch Group. ETA makes a watch's movement, the mechanical inside of the watch that is the motor of time. ETA's experience makes it a leader in the manufacturing of watch movements.

History

Four master watchmakers founded the company now known as ETA in 1793. The company's mastery in movements has made its products sought after by watch makers all over the world.

Suppliers to the World

ETA is considered to be the most outstanding supplier of movements in the world. It is accurate enough to be used in high end applications. ETA is the supplier of movements to the majority of the Swiss watch firms, as well as Rado, Casio, Polet and Raketa.

Swiss Made

All watches in clocks made in Switzerland come with an identifying "Swiss Made" mark. In the case of ETA, if their movement is not in a watch manufactured in Switzerland, a "Swiss" indication will be on a component of the movement. A watch with this designation embodies a promise of quality. It is a trust built through the world through many years of consistent quality.
